Rebel Boy and Sam WOLFE make their return on UMEK’s label 1605

Rebel Boy and Sam WOLFE make their return to UMEK’s 1605 after recently featuring on one of the imprint’s mixed artists EPs. 1605 is alongside the likes of Drumcode as one of techno’s leading record labels, and its releases are often found at the top of sales charts on leading stores such as Beatport.

The label’s style is usually a blend of powerful synth lines and driving percussion that slams out the speaker. This release perfectly fits its trademark sound, and each of the two tracks has explosive energy that should be enough to make any dance floor erupt with frenzied excitement.

Rebel Boy and Sam WOLFE are both regular collaborators who have previously joined forces on Riot Recordings and Senso Sounds, but each of the guys has also proven themselves as solo talents. Rebel Boy is fresh off a release on Respekt and Sam WOLFE featuring on Tronic.

‘Psalm 39’ is the EP’s title track, and it opens the release with a heavy kick drum and series of industrial sound effects that burst forth from the rhythms of the thrashing percussion. It’s the main breakdown that gives the track its defining element, and this is also true for the second track ‘Dismantle The System’.

‘Dismantle The System’ is certainly the darker of the two tracks, and its brooding atmosphere is cut by a burst of melody from the lead synth. The breakdowns in both tracks are something of a masterclass in how to build suspense, and only the likes of UMEK could perhaps have pulled it off with such skill.

Extremely hard to pick a favorite, and no doubt lots of people will decide to buy the full EP, which is available HERE
