UMEK started the new year with a remix of the classic track ‘Red Herring’ by Union Jack, and now he is back on 1605 with his first EP of original music in 2021. 1605 is UMEK’s own label, and it’s been the platform he has used for the majority of his music releases over the last few years, but he has also featured on other scene leading imprints such as Intec, Suara, Filth On Acid and Tronic. In recent times UMEK has been one of the world’s top selling electronic music artists on websites such as Beatport, after dominating techno sales charts with his many No.1 tracks such as ‘Vibrancy’ and ‘Evolution’. With a back catalogue of releases that span over two decades, UMEK has been at the forefront of the world’s techno scene ever since the genre broke out of Detroit, and first got a foot hold in Europe’s underground club scene.

Both the tracks on this release tip their hat to the old school rave scene with ‘Killer’ utilising retro style synth stabs and a broken beat percussion loop in its timeless breakdown. ‘Navigating’ sees a welcome return to the UMEK’s classic hoover synth arpeggios that gave his early tracks such a stand out sound, and the raw energy is nothing less than superb! Blending classic sounds with modern production has been a staple of UMEK’s career in music, and these two techno cuts are perhaps his best example of this to date.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Killer’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
