What a start to 2016 for German duo Mat.joe. The pair, renowned for releases on the likes of Off Recordings and Hot Creations, hit the number one spot with Sonny Fodera collaboration ‘Take It Easy’ this month after a killer release on Audiojack’s Gruuv imprint. What’s more, their rich vein of form looks only set to continue as the boys line up a certified heater in ‘Jungle Fever’ on Mother Recordings. You can grab an exclusive preview of the track via WWD today. We also talked crocodiles, collab-ing and lots more. Check it!

WWD: First off, congratulations on the Beatport No.1 ‘Take It Easy’ with Sonny Fodera. Where were you when you heard it topped the chart?

Thank you so much. We were in the studio to work out a remix…we smiled like Spongebob: all the time!

WWD: Where did you guys put the track together? Did you see it doing well in the charts?

It was a really good workflow via mail, sketches and stems and we were quite happy with the result but somehow you never know how a track will do in the charts, you can only speculate.

WWD: The follow-up ‘Jungle Fever’ is ready to go on Mother Recordings. What can you tell us about the tune?

Jungle Fever is the one that sends you straight to the jungle and makes you smile. Music On brings back the typical Mat.Joe urban touch with a strong vocal loop. Both tracks are made for the dance floor.

WWD: Have you ever had the chance to explore the real life Jungle?

Yes, in Mexico. Worst experience with Mosquitos. Don’t forget your “repellente” ! 😀

WWD:In recent memory, what’s the most adventurous experience you’ve had on your travels?

Oh there were a lot of adventurous things…maybe to swim in the same lake with dangerous crocodiles… 😀

WWD: Are you still based in Berlin? Is the love still strong?

Yes we are both based here. It’s amazing…best vibes …especially the summer is dope!

WWD: 3 favourite hang-outs in Berlin?

Tempelhofer Feld Skatepark
Sisyphos on a Sunday
At a random Späti.

WWD: What’s the dream achievement in your eyes right now?

Make more music, travel and be happy!

WWD: One thing you’ve learnt in the studio recently?

Take care of your strange neighbors …

WWD: Looking ahead to the rest of 2016 just a few quickfire Qs

1- Where are we going to find the best party?

Guess Croatia will be the next dope place!

2- One thing you want to see more of?

Brazil

3- The one musical accomplishment you’re most proud of?

We like all the stuff 😀

WWD: What else production wise have you got coming up and where can we catch you live over the next few weeks?

There are a couple of things coming up…just watch out everyday 🙂

Mat.Joe’s ‘Jungle Fever’ is out on Mother Recordings on February 29th
