Are you ready for a deep dive into the world of Planet TAU? Yes, ‘Spektrum 6’ is here – another bumper VA full of goodness. Each installment of the Spektrum series expands the label’s outlook while also galvanizing its core ethos: taking elements of the past to construct a future vision. On this edition, TAU’s founders, the Adana Twins, have compiled 16 fresh new productions that traverse a range of styles, all with the core sound of the label embedded in their frequencies.
Adana Twins lead the charge on Spektrum 6, coming in hot with ‘Try.’ This one simmers with energy as it builds out into a captivating rhythm. The percussion is typically distinct, with a warm low end and steadily increasing intensity, while the vocal clip keeps you locked in throughout. Hold on to your hats for the breakdown, masterfully composed to create a spellbinding moment of tension release. Czech producer Blackloud steps up next with ‘Male Maluco,’ a jaunty cut with plenty of upbeat energy. There’s a Latin-esque feel to this one, Blackloud combining a simple melody with piano keys and a chopped up vocal. When the main vocal comes in, prepare for the dance floor to explode. This is a real party starter.
Italian artist Auggië follows up Blackloud’s Latin stepper with an ethereal cut named ‘Why.’ This production combines emotive vocals with a mystical atmosphere, which enchants you as it progresses and unfolds. Auggië’s arrangement sucks you into its mesmerizing audio landscape, with the second half punctuated by a simple-yet-hypnotising melody. Close your eyes and drift away into the ether. Label regular Gumm delivers a moody workout with ‘Where You At.’ Gentle pads drift over a mean bassline, ushering in a spoken word vocal that leads us to a breakdown. At the break, an evangelist sample speaks of unity and rouses the energy even higher, before the track continues with its powerful rhythm.
Angelos is fifth in line, bringing a unique touch to the comp. ‘Madness’ kicks in with an air of mystery, the intro building up into an irresistible flow. Angelos does a great job of cultivating tension and energetic build, guiding us into a potent breakdown – while a solitary vocal clip utters “Madness…. Madness.” Italian duo Hunter/Game inject a progressive element with their spellbinding cut ‘Gran Turismo.’ Gorgeous female vocals are spliced up over a beautifully composed instrumental, full of positive feeling. This one is sure to provide transcendent moments on the dance floor, immersing the listener in its wonderfully spirited vibrations.
Next up is ‘Pain’ by Beswerda, a galloping cut with crisp drum programming. Once this one gets rolling you’ll be captivated by the bouncy bassline and shimmering synth lines. Beswerda really tells a story here, guiding us through a series of iterations, each one a new and beguiling chapter in the track’s story. After that it’s Severin Su with ‘Ego Reverie.’ This one features multi-layered percussion and a vocal refrain that will keep you locked from the start. The drums keep this one full of propulsive energy, while the stabs add drama and a serious emotional charge. Severin Su keeps the arrangement simple, yet highly impactful with subtle shifts creating powerful moments throughout.
Halfway through and it’s already a supercharged comp… And there’s still another eight superlative cuts to go.
Argia takes us into the second half of Spektrum 6 with ‘Attagirl.’ This one has an unusual flavour, with its driving bassline, earworm riff and warped vocal clips. Argia’s signature style is clear to hear throughout; considered, left of centre yet perfect for the dance floor. Alessio Cristiano follows up with ‘Feel You,’ a magnificent cut with a highly emotive main vocal. The soulful male voice uplifts the entire track, which has a contagious energy. The rhythms combine with a deep groovy bassline, and insistent stabs. The breakdown is certain to blow a few minds on the dance floor as that vocal reaches its peak.
Nowa brings something a little different to the comp with ‘Geez Geez,’ with its warped Middle Eastern flavours. Traditional sounding drums combine with a jaunty low end and a crazy main riff, which will infect your mainframe. This is sure to cause uproar wherever it’s played, absolutely unmatched power. Aaaron & Deckert take us into romantic territory with ‘Your Love,’ a heartwarming production that features a delightful RnB-esque vocal. The build up is sublime, Aaron and Deckert carefully turning up the heat with classic sounds and muted piano keys. Halfway through we reach a life-affirming crescendo, where all the elements combine to create a goosebump-inducing moment never to be forgotten.
Martin HERRS and Santanamusique take us to the stars with ‘Circo’ – a psychedelic sonic trip with hypnotic qualities. The bassline captures your imagination, while the high-pitched riff sends shivers down your spine and the warped vocal gets your mind in a twist. This is a crazy cut for crazy moments. Omer Bar delivers a percussive workout with ‘Who Got Your Back.’ Heavyweight bass gives this one its moody edge, while the arrangement creates a feeling of urgency. Omer’s production prowess creates a compelling atmosphere, one in which the rhythms penetrate into your bones and get your body moving uncontrollably.
Agustin Girl steers us towards the close of this excellent comp with ‘Syntax Error.’ This cut works off a neatly composed combination of layers; the low end is mean and sombre, while the main melody has an air of melancholy and a gnarly riff sets it all off. This is all juxtaposed with a cutesy vocal clip. Perfect for taking the dance floor a little deeper. Finally Doctor Dru wraps up Spektrum 6 with ‘Squares&Circles,’ a soul nourishing cut that has elements of trance and progressive. The percolating low end keeps you engaged throughout, while the synth layers add a strong emotional pull. The spoken word sample takes us into the outer reaches of the galaxy and the whole thing is designed to whisk the dance floor into a higher vibrational dimension… Stunning.
So there it is, ‘Spektrum 6,’ another definitive VA for TAU. A multitude of styles and influences that epitomize the diversity of the label and its ongoing evolution. Introducing new talent alongside established family members, ‘Spektrum 6′ represents a platform that continues to define its own unique lane… from now until forever.
