Volen Sentir is a music project established in 2017 by an international duo of sound producers Anjei and Dave Pad. These masters of Deep House sound had their tracks released on the legendary Shanti Radio, Lost & Found, and All Day I Dream music labels.

Volen Sentir’s music is an “invitation to travel” – a guide to alternate realities. It draws the listener in with its depth, mystery and ambience. It immerses one into a meditative-like state, allowing to mentally observe the stories never told and legends long forgotten. The duo now return to Shanti Mansion with a full-length album, ‘The Book Of Wisdom.’

We thought it best to dig deep and chat with the artists to discuss the creative concept, collaborations, the meaning behind the tracks, and more. Plus, we have the full premiere of ‘Heidence,’ which you can now listen to exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!

WWD: Let’s start with the big picture — what inspired the concept behind ‘The Book of Wisdom?’ Is there a narrative or philosophical thread that ties the album together?

Being a human and living this life – it is a really spectacular journey. You all know it pretty well. Our life consists of different kinds of experiences, periods, ups and downs and everything. We all get a great experience of life in all their kinds.

We feel that to share our own experiences recreated in a music journey, that will be a real story-telling sensation. And it must be multi genre. As we find ourselves like not only artists of 1 genre. We can do everything, whatever we want, the way we feel.

During our producers and djs careers, we often released singles and eps, just like episodes of full length movies. But to do a full story from start to finish – that’s the real thing to do. It’s another type of art. So, the idea of making an album is to write a full-length story, book, movie… whatever we can call it.

WWD: The album opens with ‘Knowledge (Intro)’ — why did you choose to start the journey this way, and what does this piece represent in the broader context of the album?

Knowledge is a collection of experiences, if you have it and also if you can use it – this is a real gift of life. Knowledge is the prologue to our album. This is immersive diving into this journey

WWD: Tracks like ‘Moment of Peace’ and ‘Pomni’ have an emotional depth that feels very personal. Were there specific memories or moments in your lives that influenced these tracks?

‘Moment of Peace’ is the track from which the album has started to be created. It’s the signature of an album. It was written in New York, Summer 2021. This is a story about the human race, history of mankind. Dream of the special Moment when all living souls in the whole world find peace and feel unity, harmony and love together. When people stops fighting, feeding their fears and start to shine with love and enlightenment. Pomni (Remember eng.) Is a call to remember all that has happened to us during our lives. No matter good or sad, this is a part of our way. All those eyes we’ve met, all those souls we touched, all those loves we loved, all those who aren’t with us already.

WWD: You’ve collaborated with Marsh and PROFF on multiple songs. How did those partnerships come about, and what did each artist bring to the table creatively?

We and PROFF are good old friends for decades. When he moved to London in 2021, our art direction found a lot of mutual ways and ideas. We started Thunderlab Collective, in September 2023 Anjei visited Vlad in UK. The time they spent was productive in different kinds. Tom Marsh is our friend, with whom we have already had some nice experiences. We made some edits with his tracks to play. After a while there was a request to remix his Pneuma. Last year on Anjuna Explorations we met again, and discussed a collaboration. After a few days we sent 5 sketches to him. This is how we’ve got 2 collaboration tracks.

WWD: There’s a strong cinematic and spiritual energy running through the album — especially in tracks like ‘1997’ and ‘Kai.’ How do you channel those mystical or ancient elements in your production?

To create a special immersive atmosphere is our passion. To change reality by sound is our art. Deep organic sounds of nature are one of our lovely instruments.

WWD: Tell us more about ‘Golden Greed.’ The title suggests something darker. What story or message are you trying to convey through this track?

In the mid 50s of last century, in the USSR there was an amazing cartoon movie, Golden Antelope. It’s about human greed.

Greed for power, greed for money, greed as it is. What stands behind a Greed? Maybe it’s just a survival deeply masked fear of death?

WWD: Thunderlab Collective has become a space for your creative expression. What role did the label play in shaping and supporting this album release?

Thunderlab is a space where we can decide everything by ourselves. We trust our tastes and we do it like we feel. It’s our special place of power, where we together with other artists can create and release with its special signature.

WWD: ‘Different’ featuring XIRA adds a vocal-driven dimension to the record. How did that track evolve, and what was it like working with her?

In the beginning, the sketch was called Montreal, with drums, bass, main lead and harmony. We sent it to Marsh, who likes it a lot, and there was a feeling that it needed to be signed. Tom found Xira fast, and she really did her best! Beautiful mix of warm and soft vocals with sensitive vibes. We like the result.

WWD: If listeners could walk away from ‘The Book of Wisdom’ with one feeling, one lesson, or one reflection — what would you hope it is?

Happiness.

WWD: Lastly, you’ve built a reputation for deep, organic, and meaningful music. How do you see your sound evolving after this album? Where does Volen Sentir go next?

That’s the question! Haha! We can go any direction. Let’s see!

WWD: We love that! Thanks for the chat 🙂

Thanks 🙂
