Andrew Azara is an Irish DJ/Producer that is about to take the next step in his career. He recently released a 4-track EP on Nick Curly’s label Cecille and it’s doing great in the charts. All the big artists are supporting this EP from the likes of Franky Rizardo, Joey Daniel, Fleur Shore, and more. We invited the artist to WWD for a little chat and a mix on our Select Cuts series.

WWD: Congratulations on your new ‘Right on Time’ EP on Cecille! Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration and creative process behind it?

Thanks! Sure the inspiration came from listening to a lot of early records from late 00s/early 2010’s specifically on Cecille, I just love the infectious house music that was around then and I guess I was taking some homage from that while giving it a 2024 spin.

WWD: Can you give us a breakdown about each track?

Each track was made with the dancefloor in mind, and something to hopefully turn people’s heads and think, oh this sounds new / cool and or a bit weird 🙂

WWD: How did you come to work with the major label for this release and what has the experience been like?

I was initially put in contact through a friend of Marc Scholl who runs the label alongside Nick Curly, I was sending music back and forth to them for quite a while and we eventually got it right.

WWD: Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your style as a DJ and producer?

My musical influences change all the time, because firstly i’m a fan of music then DJ/Producer second so i’m always looking for new artists, big or small. At the moment a big influence for me is Traumer, I just love his passion and attention to detail, he doesn’t seem to follow any trends and I can really resonate with that.

WWD: What advice would you give to other up-and-coming DJs and producers who aspire to achieve what you have?

I always say the same thing and it’s think long game, I have been doing this for nearly 6 years + professionally and now I am only touching the surface, so if you are in your first 3-4 years, just try not to want it all so fast and get bogged down too easily, things will eventually start to fall into place if you are in it for the right reasons.

WWD: What can your fans expect next from you? Any upcoming projects, collaborations, or performances we should look forward to?

I have some cool stuff in the works on some other great labels from Artists I admire, but I can’t say too much on that right now. I have a remix coming on Hedzup, from Paris next which I really enjoyed making and will play it next week here in Barcelona where I am playing at HOLA beach club with Mihai Popivicui and Burnski.

WWD: How do you see the electronic music scene evolving in the next few years and where do you see yourself within that landscape?

I really hope we go back into more roots, and be less tech focused. I think social media is a great tool to self promote but it’s taking more centre stage at the moment which I am hoping it takes a little side step, and makes more room for good music.

WWD: Can you tell us a bit about your Select Cuts mix this week? What themes or vibes were you aiming to capture?

The mix you’re going to hear will be a selection of tunes I am playing at the moment, older records and possibly some unreleased stuff from me, so stay tuned 🙂

WWD: Thanks for the chat, Andrew!
