After a cameo appearance on the Spektrum compilation, DC Salas lands on TAU with his first full EP. The Belgian producer has been active for more than a decade and brings with him depth of experience and maturity, along with a clear understanding of the dance floor. Kicking off with ‘Never Is Ever Lost’, a rolling cut with punchy drums and a mean bassline. Salas pumps the track full of energy, taking us to a glittering breakdown which heralds a lively second half. An invigorating riff is the centrepiece, adding an uplifting atmosphere which is sure to send waves of good energy pulsating through the dance floor.
This is followed by ‘Distant Future’, a track punctuated by its distinct percussion. The dense low end is complemented by the mysterious aura of a delicate melody which appears intermittently. The beats work in perfect harmony with the bass, creating a solid foundation for the arrival of an acid-flecked riff. In the second half, Salas switches things up slightly, rearranging the bassline and adding sweeping synth lines.
Next up is the title track, ‘Time Well Spent’, a cut that is buzzing with driving energy from the start. The juddering b-line stimulates your cerebral cortex and encourages expressive dance moves, along with beautifully composed melodies that intertwine and add a feeling of optimism. Every step of the way DC Salas keeps the track shifting and progressing, avoiding stagnation and keeping the listener fully captivated.
Lastly, we have Panorama Bar resident Massimiliano Pagliara with a remix of ‘Time Well Spent’. Massimiliano’s rework strips things back a little, allowing the rhythm track to take prominence. It’s lighter, but still packs a punch. He maintains a constant level of energy throughout, with various squelchy analogue riffs and breathtaking use of pads and melody to whisk the listener away to another dimension of existence.
