Shimza returns to his KUNYE label this January with ‘Howling Moon’ featuring Kieran Fowkes and a remix from Innvervisions’ Denis Horvat.

Having released on Cadenza Records and Knee Deep in Sound, Shimza launched KUNYE in 2020 as a platform for South Africa’s emerging talent. Now, the South African lodestar returns to his label with melodic, afrotech EP ‘Howling Moon’ featuring Kieran Fowkes of Him_Self_Her fame on vocals and a remix from Innervisions’ Denis Horvat.

A growling bassline underneath sharp, tribal hats and claps amalgamated with crashing symbols, theatrical pads and the haunting vocals of Kieran Fowkes unfasten the dramatic ‘Howling Moon’. Next, Denis Horvat reworks ‘Howling Moon’ into a chunkier, electro-infused cut peppered with intergalactic glitches and off-kilter effects to make for a more mechanical rendition before Shimza provides his remix of the track. Here, a more acute rendering boasts stuttering effects throughout that crescendo to cinematic effect. Lastly, ‘The Choir’, a playful track from Shimza, offers a club-ready cut as the bass carries the melodies in harmony.
