Various – Cocoon Compilation O [Cocoon Recordings]

When We Dip
Reviews, Tech House, Techno
25 August 2015

It’s already August and the time for “Cocoon Compilation O” has come, the notorious Cocoon Recordings is ready to publish the 15th episode of this summer series, showing the evolution and the indistinguishable imprint of the label. In these twelve tracks different genres and style mixtures play an important role, reviving particular and distinctive combinations between techno and house.

Tripmastaz, Dana Ruh and Lee Van Dowski show the contemporary tech house style, which the label is into right now, records like these are played by many djs in the various Cocoon events around the Europe. The fabulous Berliner duo youANDme debuts on the label with an interesting combo of dub techno and tribal elements, remarking their roots but keeping an eye into the future; Traumer opted for tribal too, playing hard with percussions.

Some great stuff comes from respectable and underground names in the electronic music scene: Tom Demac in “Axel Foley” goes creative with an electro bassline, while Steve Parker, Dast and Karim Sahraoui radiate with their productions a melancholic but dreamy feeling; emotions and state of minds easily recognizable in many releases from the Cocoon back catalogue.

Last but not least a mention is needed for the opening and closing tracks: Roland M Dill produced an electronica based piece with atypical and alternative sonorities, and Luca Ballerini closes the compilation with a smooth drum loop, flying over the clouds with magical arpeggios and soft strings.

In the overall the compilation is nice and fresh, maybe it lacks a little bit in innovation but let’s trust Sven Vath and his collaborators, for sure they’ll publish in the next fall / winter season more stunning and impressive releases like they have always done.

The compilation will be available from August 24th 2015.
