HNNY is one of those producers who isn’t looking to move you through pounding base lines or deafening kick drums. He moves you in the simplest of ways, through beautiful melodies and melancholic vocal samples. His newest release “Cheer Up My Brother” is absolutely everything you want in a song that perfectly encapsulates summer. This beautiful and peaceful song can bring you back to a time before you had any troubles or the slightest worry in your life. For the 5 minutes and 5 seconds you are a kid again. Getting ice cream on your hands and trips to the beach on hot sunny days. Car journeys with the windows down staring out joyfully at the world zooming by.

It reminds me a lot of “Porcelain” By Moby, which is no bad thing at all. HNNY was also the debut release on OMENA just over 1 year ago with “Always“. In describing “Always” HNNY himself said that “you can’t listen to this while it’s raining, it doesn’t work like that”. For me that is the perfect description of his new record as well.

It is also the first track on HNNY’s upcoming album, Sunday. While there is very little info about this upcoming album if this first track is anything to go by then I for one can not wait to hear more. This record is also unique in that it is a 7 inch vinyl. The cover has been designed by Rikard Ljungdahl Eklund and Ivo Kiusalaas. Although 7″ have not become as popular as 12″ in this recent renaissance of the vinyl era this is a must have for anyone who has ever enjoyed a sunny day and I challenge all of you to listen and tell me otherwise.

Track list

A. Cheer Up My Brother

B. There Is No One Else
