Prok & Fitch talk Toolroom Knights [Interview]

When We Dip
Interviews, Tech House
18 November 2013

Brighton boys Prok & Fitch have joined legends like Eddie Halliwell, Stefano Noferini and Mark Knight in mixing their very own Toolroom Knights Compilation. A great success, seven years in the making. Prok & Fitch are truly masters of Tech House. They’ve crafted a instantly recognisable sound, energetic and groovin’ and have signed tracks to some of biggest labels in the underground including Axtone, Great Stuff, , CR2 and Stealth. We caught up with the boys to find out all about the album and what they’ve been up to, check it out below!

First off lads, give us the lowdown on the album! What can we expect from it? Any exclusives to look forward to?

Were very excited about this one, It was really important to us this the Album flowed and was a true reflection of our sound. Our aim was to get as many quality exclusive tracks as possible, whilst trying to avoid recycling old Material. Was a great excuse to lock ourselves in the Studio and get loads of new tracks finished.

There’s five exclusives from us Including Collaborations with My Digital Enemy, Filthy Rich & Simon Doty, a Stella remix from Marco Lys of one of our first Toolroom releases “Freak Show”. Dope Drop, is a brand new one of us, seems to be quite a bit of hype around this one, getting some wicked reactions on the dancefloor too.

And also plenty of exclusive tracks from the likes of Mario Ochoa, Ruben Mandolini, Vlada Assasin, Koen Groenvel, Ed Brumwell and Heath Holme

Any tracks you’re particularly proud of?

Tough to pick one, would have to be between Get It on, Double Drop & Diva

It’s a real milestone in a career, whats next for Prok and Fitch?

Thanks, were really proud to have been asked to-do the compilation, and hopefully all the time & effort would have been well worth it. As for what to expect from us next, we’ll continue to spend lots of time in the studio, working on original tracks. We have some big things in the pipeline for next year, without giving to much away expect to see a collaboration between us & Mark Knight  released in the first quarter of 2014.

You’ve developed such a distinct style of tech house, we have to ask the question. How did it come about? was it long in the making?

We’ve been producing together for seven years now, for us the Drums have always been the key element in our tracks, and I guess that’s what were recognised for. We make a conscious effort to keep things as fresh as possible, and keep the recycling of our sounds to a minimum.

For our tech minded readers, what can you tell us about your set-up? any tips for the rookie producers reading, hoping to emulate Prok and Fitch?

We produce in the box so at the moment only work with VST’s and no outboard gear.

Our Studio is a pretty simple set up:

Custom Built Macbook Pro It’s a bit of a Beast!

Mackie HR-824 Monitors

Genelec 8020A Monitors

Evolution MK249c Midi Keyboard

Mackie Big Knob

Focusrite Trackmaster Pro Preamp

sE Electronics G3500- Mic

Our advice would be to make music that you really want to make & not necessarily music that’s the current trend, It’s important to be influenced, but you need to give it your own angle, be ever evolving & create you own sound, originality is definitely something we strive for.

Lastly, what can we look forward to from you this winter? More releases? maybe a trip to Ireland?

After the compilation is released we’ll have a gap in our release schedule, with 5 exclusive’s sure people will have had more than enough Prok & Fitch new material. Were be back in the New Year with some more bombs.. Unfortunately no trips to Ireland are scheduled, hopefully that will change as would be great to come back over again.
